Lagoon Campground on the Warroora Coast has 20 beach and dune sites. How Park Stay releases them, when availability goes and how to book a Lagoon cancellation.
About Lagoon
Lagoon is a medium-sized campground on the Warroora Coast in the Nyinggulu (Ningaloo) Coastal Reserves, well south of Coral Bay. It sits beside a recreation zone of Ningaloo Marine Park, where you can swim and snorkel off the beach and watch for the dolphins and stingrays that Warroora's sheltered lagoons are known for.
It's further down the coast than 14 Mile and Sandy Point, so it suits campers happy to drive a bit further for their patch of beach. The Baiyungu, Thalanyji and Yinigurdira people are the Traditional Owners of the Warroora Coast. Coral Bay is the nearest town, so stock up there.
The campsites
Explore Parks describes twenty campsites with different surfaces. Some are right on the beach, others are tucked behind the dunes. All are unpowered. Park Stay lists the same 20. The beach and dune sites are very different stays, so read each site's details and check the campground map before you pick one.
There are no facilities, so plan to be fully self-sufficient:
- No toilets, drinking water or bins.
- Bring a portable, self-contained toilet approved for use in Australia that can be emptied at a dump point. A chemical toilet dump point is about 1km away.
- Carry all rubbish out.
- Generators are permitted.
- Dogs are welcome on a leash at all times.
- Campfires only when conditions allow, in your own portable, self-contained fire ring (usually April to October), with your own firewood.
- No unlicensed ATVs, quad bikes or other off-road vehicles.
Warroora has no park entry fee. You pay a per person, per night camping fee at the no-facilities rate, with concession and child rates, by Mastercard or VISA at the time of booking. Volunteer campground hosts sometimes stay on site.
How booking works
Book through Park Stay WA. Bookings are essential and must be made before you arrive, one campsite per booking. There's no booking fee.
Lagoon is part of the Ningaloo Coast system, so sites are released in monthly blocks on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00am AWST, not on the rolling 180-day window used elsewhere. As of October 2026 you can book stays up to 30 April 2027. The block for 30 April to 1 June 2027 opens at 10am AWST on Tuesday 3 November 2026, followed by blocks on 1 December 2026 and 5 January 2027. A virtual waiting room runs on release mornings.
The maximum stay is 14 nights if any night falls in WA public school holidays, or 28 nights otherwise.
When it sells out
Expect the beach sites to be the most sought after. Demand peaks in the cooler months and the WA school holidays, and DBCA has warned of very high demand for the April 2027 holidays. With Nyinggulara National Park's campgrounds closed after Cyclone Narelle, and parts of 14 Mile closed too, fewer Ningaloo sites are available, so the open Warroora campgrounds are busier than usual.
How to get a cancellation
People can cancel or change bookings up to 11:59pm AWST on the day before arrival, and those nights go straight back on Park Stay.
The best windows to watch:
- The 48 hours after a release. Bookings made three or more days ahead can be cancelled free in that window, so overbooked dates often come back.
- Just before the fee cut-offs. Dropping dates is free more than 14 days ahead for peak dates, or more than 5 days ahead for other dates.
- Right up to arrival. Sites can reappear until the night before.
Rather than refreshing Park Stay, watch Lagoon on Aussie Camp Alerts. We'll email you when a night you're after comes free, and you can book it before someone else spots it.
Getting there
Lagoon is about 71km south of Coral Bay. Access is for high-clearance 4WD vehicles with low-range gears only. Lower your tyre pressure for the soft sand track, and carry a compressor since there's no way to reinflate on the way out. Check the Main Roads WA travel map and download the Lagoon mud map from Explore Parks.
You'll be a long way from help, so bring plenty of water, food, fuel and first aid. December to April can be extremely hot with high bushfire risk, and November to April is cyclone season.
Nearby alternatives
Other options on the Warroora Coast and around Coral Bay:
- Sandy Point, 14 sand sites next to a sanctuary zone, closer to Coral Bay.
- 14 Mile, a larger campground with beach boat launching (check its cyclone closure first).
- Peoples Park Coral Bay, a caravan park in town if you want facilities.
