Sandy Point on the Warroora Coast has just 14 sand sites. How Park Stay releases them, when availability runs out and how to book a Sandy Point cancellation.
About Sandy Point
Sandy Point (also called Sandy Point (Nyinggulu) on DBCA's pages) is a small beach campground on the Warroora Coast, in the Nyinggulu (Ningaloo) Coastal Reserves south of Coral Bay. It sits next to the Pelican Sanctuary Zone of Ningaloo Marine Park, and the shoreline in front of camp is a special purpose zone where fishing from the shore is allowed. Small boats and kayaks can be launched off the beach by 4WD.
That mix of protected water for snorkelling and a beach you can fish from is a big part of the appeal. Warroora's coast is known for sheltered lagoons, and you may see dolphins and stingrays in the shallows. The Baiyungu, Thalanyji and Yinigurdira people are the Traditional Owners. Coral Bay is the closest town for fuel, water and food.
The campsites
According to Explore Parks, Sandy Point has fourteen sand campsites, all unpowered. Park Stay shows the same 14. Read each site's details and check the campground map, since sand sites vary in how easy they are to get into.
It's a no-facilities campground, so come fully self-contained:
- No toilets, no drinking water and no bins.
- Bring a portable, self-contained toilet approved for use in Australia that can be emptied at a dump point. The nearest portable toilet dump point is about 3km away.
- Take all rubbish out with you.
- Generators are permitted.
- Dogs are allowed on a leash at all times.
- Campfires only when conditions permit, in your own portable, self-contained fire ring (usual season April to October). Bring your own firewood.
- No unlicensed ATVs, quad bikes or other off-road vehicles.
There's no park entry fee on the Warroora Coast. The camping fee is per person, per night at the rate for campgrounds without facilities, with concession and child rates, and is paid by Mastercard or VISA when you book. A volunteer campground host may be around to help.
How booking works
Sandy Point is booked through Park Stay WA. Bookings are essential and must be made before you arrive, for one campsite at a time, and there's no booking fee.
Like the rest of the Ningaloo Coast, it's released in monthly blocks rather than on a rolling 180-day window. New blocks open on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00am AWST. As of October 2026, nights up to 30 April 2027 are bookable, and the 30 April to 1 June 2027 block opens at 10am AWST on Tuesday 3 November 2026. After that, blocks open on 1 December 2026 and 5 January 2027. DBCA uses a virtual waiting room on release mornings, so log in early.
You can stay up to 14 nights if any night is in WA public school holidays, or up to 28 nights otherwise.
When it sells out
Fourteen sites doesn't go far. For the cooler months and WA school holidays, expect Sandy Point to be gone shortly after a block opens. DBCA has flagged very high demand for the April 2027 school holidays across the Ningaloo Coast. Damage from Cyclone Narelle has closed campgrounds in nearby Nyinggulara National Park and part of 14 Mile, which puts extra pressure on the Warroora campgrounds that are still open.
How to get a cancellation
The good news: DBCA lets people cancel or change a booking until 11:59pm AWST the day before arrival, and freed-up nights go back on sale straight away.
When to look:
- Right after release mornings. Bookings made three or more days ahead have a free 48-hour grace period, so some speculative bookings come back within two days.
- Before the fee cut-offs. Removing peak-period dates is free if it's done more than 14 days ahead, and other dates more than 5 days ahead. Cancellations cluster just before those points.
- The last few days. Sites can come back right up to the day before arrival.
Checking a 14-site campground by hand is a lottery. Set a watch for Sandy Point on Aussie Camp Alerts and you'll get an email as soon as a night you want shows up on Park Stay. Paid watchers get the alert instantly; free alerts arrive 15 minutes later.
Getting there
Sandy Point is about 44km south of Coral Bay. Access is for high-clearance 4WD vehicles with low-range gears only. Drop your tyre pressures for the soft sand, and bring a compressor because there's nowhere to reinflate on the way out. Check the Main Roads WA travel map for conditions and grab the Sandy Point mud map from Explore Parks.
This is very remote country: pack enough water, food, fuel and first aid for your stay. Summer brings extreme heat and high bushfire risk, and November to April is cyclone season.
Nearby alternatives
If Sandy Point is booked out, try these on Park Stay:
- 14 Mile, a bigger Warroora campground a little closer to Coral Bay (check its cyclone closure status first).
- Lagoon, with 20 sites, some on the beach.
- Peoples Park Coral Bay, a caravan park in town, booked directly with the operator.
